Invitation

The Department of Human Services invites you to an Information Session for the Local Infant Adoption Program.

Attendance at the Information Session is the first stage of your application to be accepted on the waiting list and it is a pre-requisite that both partners attend.

The Information Session will outline key aspects of adoption in Victoria and provide information about the program, the assessment and approval process.

Date: Monday 7th April, 2008
Time: 3:30pm - 5:30pm

Stage 1 - Recruitment

i) Request invitation to Information Session.

ii) Receive invitation to Information Session.

iii) Attend Information Session at DHS on the Local Infant Adoption Program.

iv) Complete Expression of Interest to attend Education Groups.

v) Provide birth and marriage certificates.

Stage 2 - Education

i) Both partners attend Education Groups

Stage 3 - Application

i) Complete Life Stories
ii) Have medical checks done by GP and Specialists.
iii) Facilitate police checks.
iv) Provide financial statements.
v) Supply 2 family and 2 other references.

Stage 4 - Assessment

i) Attend 5 sessions with social workers.
ii) Written report is prepared, given to applicants and submitted.

Stage 5 - Committee Decision

i) Applicants are either Approved, Disapproved or Deferred.
ii) Approvals move to waiting list, Disapprovals can appeal, Deferred address issues raised and reapply.

Stage 6 - Adoption

i) Family is selected and information is exchanged.
ii) Child is placed with the adoptive family.
iii) Post-Placement assessments are completed.
iv) Adoption is legalised.
